BRIDPORT & WEST DORSET GOLF

After a night of heavy rain and strong winds only 22 starters braved the cold of Sunday morning to take part in the Individual Stableford. Unaffected by the inhospitable conditions the top three men in Div.2 all came in with scores in the forties led by Ted Stordy(13) who amassed 43 points. Close behind Ed Hanson(16) took the runner-up spot with 42 points and Bryan Holmes(18) came in third with 40 points. There were also good scores at the top of Div. 3 where Duncan Jones(23) took the honours scoring 39 points. Nathan Dunford(19) and Brian Savery(19) both carded 38 points with Dunford taking second place after count-back. There were just three players in Div.1 and Phil Winton and Mike Vincent both scored 36 points, Winton winning on count-back. Kevin Jones was third with 33 points.
Stordy, Hanson, Holmes & D. Jones all received a one shot handicap cut.
The veteran’s Winter Shield round on Thursday was postponed due to high winds.

English weather never fails to surprise me last week it was cold and dull, seven days later and it was like a spring day! No wind some sunshine glorious conditions for a November morning, how lucky we were.
We played a Yellow Ball competition with three people in a team and when it is your turn to play the yellow ball your Stableford score is doubled but there is no respite for the other two players as one of their scores also counts.
The winners who came in with a magnificent score of 104 points were Marion Hurley, Carole Brown & Di Stothard closely followed by Roseanne Bonfield, Viv Gill and Sue Pollock with 100 points and third and the last of the prize winners were Maureen Hicks, Liz Thompson and Heather Chapman.
Wednesday saw the first round of Dorset County Legg Bowl competition, we played Weymouth at home and our team of four did us proud! Carole Brown & Nicky Stone our silver paring and Sally Woolmington & Liz Walker our bronze pair won comfortably and progress into the next round.
Thursday was our prize giving and AGM Pat Baldwin welcomed the attending ladies and gave out the cups and trophies won during 2016. The AGM saw Jane Dowling becoming Lady Captain for the next year with Sally Woolmington as her Vice Captain.
